Did my SV at Giffords in Staines last year prior to selling. Seems ok - all young and friendly staff.

Not being from your area, I am not in a position to recommend anywhere.

I know you were somewhat tongue in cheek with the reference to "dodgy". But, the MOT is your assurance that at that point in time your bike is at least in a condition to pass a minimum safety test. As bikers we know how venerable we are and a dodgy bike is the last thing we need.

Yes there are places that have a sensible approach to "loud" cans etc and regard them as additional safety features. However, I would avoid like the plague anywhere that had a reputation for being "easy" on safety critical items. I have seen people complain at failing the test with my local sympathetic tester. But if he fails it. There is no argument, it is a fail. I have had bikes pass on promises of replacing bulbs and worn pads. But if the brakes don't work or no lock stops etc. It is a fail simple.

I got mine done recently at the Yamaha dealer in Woking. Forgot to get the MOT, phoned them up they said bring it down they would do it.

One thing, if you have an after market plate holder/tail tidy that doesn't have a reflector (like the original stock part does) then get a sticky red reflector put on the plate or it'll not pass the test.
