Default Boilers in Garage

Its getting closer to going house shopping down Southampton way.. Some of the houses I have details of have their boiler in the garage. Now I will be storing 3 bikes, petrol and all manners of flammables in my garage - anyone think this is OK, or does the same? I'm assuming its OK building regs wise, since cars are *supposed* to live in garages..

Depends on how the garage is attached to the house... though I'm not sure that I'd be happy with something that heats my house in a garage getting all cold and damp.

We are talking integral garages, the kind where you have a door through into the house

Well the law does state your only allowed to store so much fuel, I expect its written into the deeds.

I cant see why it would be a problem

For the same reason I'd never smoke in the garage. Fumes and flames etc.

it should be fine... unless ur planning on storing tonnes of the stuff.

although you can smell petrol in your garage the chance of it cathing fire is extremely thin, as you have to have the right amopunt of o2 mixed with the petrol, i serioulsy dobt this could ever happen, particularaly when the bikes tank is enclosed.

You'll find with most boilers that the pilot light/burners/ignition are sealed in the boiler and get the air from the boiler flue so it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference unless you had absolutely tonnes of petrol stored in the garage

Ive got a boiler in my garage and dont think its a problem. Any fuel should be stored in a secure container anyway else it would evaporate and you would have the smell entering your house.

On another note, if you are getting a boiler in the garage, it might be a good idea checking its got a froststat installed. That way, if the temp drops below freezing, itll mean your boiler will come on and keep stuff circulating
