Default 99 SV 650 w/ 90K, ok to buy?

New to motorcycles in general, the seller states most of the mileage is from a 60mile daily commute. Is this bike worth considering? Any major maintenance coming up on the schedule?

A 99 with 90K on the clock i guess would be worth very little. Personally i would avoid buying it unless you can get it really cheap(i.e. cheap enough that if it dies you will have money to repair it or will be able to write off the value paid for it)

Have you any idea how much the seller wants for it?

SV engines as the previous poster has said, are pretty decent and some run ok at this mileage, but are very thirsty for oil.

Hard to comment as i dont know the American market....perhaps you would be better off on the American forum?

Going by English prices i think £950 sounds very steep for a bike of that mileage, but depends on condition/mods etc. For all we know it may have had a new engine put in or rebuild!

Personally i would not pay over £500 for a bike with that high a mileage unless it had an impeccable FSH(full service history) and was well looked after!

You can get a decent SV for £1200 in England. I paid £1400 for my 99 and it had 18k miles, FSH, new chain/sprocket, lots of life in the tyres and impeccable bodywork...for a 99 i have never seen anything in as good condition

Therefore i would look to pay under $1000 in your case. When your buying a bike for that cheap it pays to look at tyres/chain sprocket etc as that can easily be a few $100 more on top of the price.

That said unless the seller is being cheeky, i doubt he would accept half his original price...plenty of bikes out there mate...keep looking
