Default Another leaving the V-twin fold...

Picking up an '04 CBR600RR on Saturday. Hoping the weather is less Arctic by then.

I'll still be about on the site, the CBR ones are a bit quiet by comparison.

It looks a bit like this...

That didn't work, did it? Any clues on how to post pics on the new forum?

Just noticed a potential problem:

if I buy this bike I will be the SIXTH owner since 01/03/04!

The chap I am buying it off only got it in November last year but as he's in a wheel chair I assume he didn't ride it much. He's also a mechanic. I'm thinking he just buys in winter and sells in summer to make a profit, hopefully nothing sinister.

The owner before him had it from May 2005.

So that means between March 2004 and May 2005 the bike's had 3 owners. I'm struggling to find a logical explaination for this...

I've HPI'd it and all vehicle and documentation numbers match and it doesn't show on any other registers.

I've left a deposit and he given me the V5 untill I pick it up on Saturday. Help, please, £100 isn't a lot to lose compared with buying a dog.

hmmm,

Are you sure hes in a wheel chair ? Great scam to sell a dodgy bike "Hes in a wheel chair so must be honest!" You have made the asumption a con artist would want you to make.

The number of owners you have quoted is not un heard of for so called first bikes like the SV or older 400's but for a CBR 600RR.

Is the deal to good to be true. If the answer is yes then it probably is a con.

I know a lot of people will disagree with this but I tend towards dealers as although you are paying mark up, you do have some come back should it turn out to be a pup.

(by the way I do sit in my house wearing a tinfoil hat. Im not paraniod, everyone IS out to get me !!!)

The bike is in very good condition but has only done 5000 miles, all dry by the look it. The price, looking at other private/dealer prices is correct, not really cheap like they want rid. Ran the engine from cold and it sounds fine.

I'm thinking maybe a big mechanical problem, like the gearbox, but why three owners in quick succession (while the bike was in warranty), then one owner for 18 months (2 summers)?

I'm going to ring the seller tomorrow and ask the question and possibly ring the owner before him too.

it may be fine, but as you've got your doubts, it could be hard to shift. Maybe see if you can get some money knocked off. I bet they've had it a while

Just buy it!.... and sell it again if it's a pup!

seriously it's probably fine, things happen. There's always someone that will buy it if not.

Stu, I like your style. Fortune favours the bold, and all that.
