It looks as though after 27k miles my front discs are shot. There is a small area with some pit marks which looks as though a corrosive material has been trapped in the brake pads perhaps or its just wear and tear.
Either way suppose it has to be done. Contacted Fowlers in Bristol as nearest Triumph dealer for me, wait for it... New discs, fixing bolts and pads all Triumph parts... £457 incl vat just the parts! Got it down to £330 EBC brake bits on t'internet. Which means I'll have to fit myself. Only worry is removing old bolts. Anyone done this before? How easy will it be to get the old fixings off? I assume they will be pretty firmly placed and of well stuck due to heat generated from braking? Any tips? Last edited by skint; 23-03-07 at 02:54 PM. Reason: development |

To be honest, my bolts came out pretty well. They where loctite'd in but i used a socket based hex key and job done. Easy peasy

It's worth getting new bolts to replace the old ones, as IIRC strictly speaking they're only good for being tightened up once.

Have you tried Sprint Manufacturing out near Warminster. As well as stocking new bits for all Trumphs they also break them (as if we needed help!).
I got some replacement discs for my old Trophy there. They were EBC ones, very low mileage off a bike they'd broken and were cheap and in excellent nick. They are, IMO, friendly and experienced people who mya be able to help you. Give 'em a call on 01985 850821 or visit : http://www.triumphparts.gbr.cc/. HTH.

How old's the trumpet? I know a few models have had new discs under warranty after premature wearing (mate has had 2 lots done on his tiger under warranty).
As Flamin_Squirrel says, you're supposed to use new bolts. |

Many thanks for the info guys - very reassuring. The job looks easy as you say I was just bit nervous about shearing a bolt or stripping the head etc.
Yeah if anyone does new Trumpet discs for £45 I will happily donate £45 to your chosen charity - though seriously, thanks for taking the time. We have an SV as well so it'll be handy when that comes round. Given the cost of keeping the trumpet on the road I am thinking of a change ![]() The bike is an 04 special (has black wheels or summat) - I do intend to contact Triumph as I did register the bike when I got it. It has done £27k and on reflection I thought it was bad mileage if of course these discs are the originals. There is no lip on the rim like you get with worn car discs but I've never kept a bike long enough before to see a disc wear. Thanks again! ![]() |
