Bloody Bikes!

Ok, a couple of questions for the ones in the know.....

1. I've recently done a GSXR front end upgrade and since then have been having problems with vibrations when braking from higher speeds, with Ben's help (21Quest) I think I have narrowed it down to the left caliper having sticky pistons on one side. Tried to free them up at the weekend and managed to get one free but the other is stuck fast, so how do I go about freeing it up? I've tried holding the other in place and pumping the lever, washing with warm water etc etc but it doesnt move (well it does, about half a mm with pressure on the lever then back in again as soon as pressure is released!)
2. When I roll off the throttle, again at higher speeds/higher gears, I get a kind of whineing sound that I think is coming from the engine. I havent heard it before and just wondering what it could be! (Just think ghost typre noises!!! )
3. Finally....when in top gear doing about 60mph if I crack the throttle open the bike stutters then takes off. (I got a 14tooth front sprocket) is this at a point where there is a dip in power/torque or something else thats wrong with it?

My bike, doing 60mph in top, would be sat at around 5k RPM. Cracking the throttle wide, I'd expect some complaints from the engine. This is worse now that I've removed the snorkel, but even with the snorkel, it'd complain a fair amount.

I'd say that's nothing out of the ordinary, be a little smoother with rolling on the power

Thanks Baph, that sorts that one out. TBH I never crack the throttle open like that normally I was just experimenting this morning and discovered it, it is sat around the 5k mark. I usually feed the throttle in gently and all is well

Ok, brake piston, assuming you're on the 4 pot Tokiko calipers:

Are you saying with G-clamps or other objects stopping the remaining 3 pistons moving you can't pump it out using the brake lever? That's a bit strage, I'd be inclined to dump the whole caliper in a bucket of hot water for 15 minutes and try again, once all pistons are moving it's going to be worth splitting the caliper, removing all the pistons are rebuilding it properly with red rubber grease and new seals if required.

Once the caliper is split in half, if a piston won't move some mole grips and a piece of heavy cloth to stop you marking the piston surface and holding that side of the caliper body in a vice should let you pull it out, be careful doing this though as if you sdon't pullit out straight it'll get well wedged and marking up pistons is expensive.

Yep, wont come out when holding others in place, not sure how hard to squeeze lever as I dont want to pop anything I shouldnt! Will put caliper in hot water and see if that does the trick. I'm assuming hot tap water will be OK and not too hot?

Tap hot will be fine, Leave it for a while to soak whatever gunk is on there. You may have to go through to option b and split the caliper, but if you're not sure on forces to use may be best to ask someone else nicely as trying to pull a piston out of a caliper with mole grips could go wrong and leave you with a marked caliper body and piston...

I would be squeezing as hard as I could with one hand on the lever if I thought all other pistons were properly secured with clamps & wood.... If something snaps / fails I'd be happiest if it did it when the bike wasn't rolling

Contact this guy climbhigh@version.net thats where I got my speedo conversion from let him know what bike and parts you are using!
