Since we're not supposed to have general chit-chat in the routes thread (and quite right too), thought I'd start a thread to comment on the routes.
So for starters, yesterday I covered Pigbunks route: Quote:
However once I was out of f***ing Surrey and into Sussex the ride was excellent, barely any traffic to negotiate and some blinding open-sighted twisties and flat out straights. A few scary downhill bends as well ![]() The a283/285 and a286 are great roads, It was tempting on my way back up the 285 to keep doubling back to re-ride one five mile section - shame it's so far from home. I extended the trip slightly and went to Wittering for walk on the sand and a (rather pricey) greasy spoon. It didn't really add anything to the riding, but at least it gave me a proper destination. The only real downer on the morning was that I still had chicken strips when I got home. ![]() Anyway, a ![]() Last edited by walnuts; 02-04-07 at 06:16 PM. |

Yer the A286 and A283 have some great sections and could probably imagine the section you are on about. The seaside run last year was similiar in a way taking a trip down to wittering.
Good idea to review the routes though Mark, hell i'd love to know all the best roads around and routes, I could then stick it into an interactive map and post it up in the routes section. |

Nice one marc - not been anywhere down that way.
If its any conciliation I could never get rid of the strips on my SV either. Profiles are different to the big bike fatter rears. |

What are these chicken strips you talk of?
![]() Still got them on the Zed, it will take me a while to lean it right over. Still getting used to the handling, turns in so quick! Sounds like a wicked route matey. |

It's got me thinking - dunno how easy it would be to do this, but it would be great to have a map of Surrey/Sussex with roads marked as to whether they're good or not - perhaps 'good but bumpy', 'good and smooooooth' and 'don't bother' or something like that. Then it would be easy to put a long/short route together from any start point, taking in some real gems that others know about but you might otherwise miss (e.g. Pirbright twisties), and avoiding wasting time with duff roads |

![]() This interactive map idea is rather good. Closest thing I can find to fit the bill is quikmaps.com, but it's very clunky. |
