Default New York in January - got any tips/hints

Mrs Matt & I are going to New York in January for six days.

Have booked the flights, but not sorted accomodation yet - looking for somewhere around £450, preferably mid-town.

Never been before so want to make the most of our time there - what is worth seeing / missing?

We have one day trip planned to Woodbury Common shopping outlet, however nothing else planned in yet.

Don't bother buying any new clothing. Get it out there. But take yer thermals, it will be cold.

The open top tour is worthwhile if you get a good guide.

We were there last February. As Tim says, it was very cold and we had a lot of snow - not the sort of snow we have here, this was deep. Eat at Pescatore on 2nd Avenue - excellent and good value, mainly used by locals. Gets busy so you have to book in the evening - google it for contact details. Frick Museum v interesting. Central Park Zoo is terrific - especially if you're there to watch the sealions' dinner time. Skating at the Rockefeller Center as it gets dark is magical. Get a ferry to the Statue of Liberty but it will be very cold out there, allow an extra hour to get through security at Battery Park. We met PhilipMac, top bloke
