Default Rode into a van, to some extent...

First thing this morning... Just minding my own business, just about to filter in between 2 lines of stationary traffic, just the slightest touch on the brakes as I changed lanes and the front wheel slid out like it was on ice. Managed to catch the slide but the wheel was so far out from under the bike that I got turned right into the van I was about to pass, thump, at about... 5mph maybe? No worthwhile damage to the van, very nice wvm helped me pick up the bike and laughed at the damage to his door "Ah, you've knocked some of the rust off". Nice feller.

So far, so boring, but when I looked back to find out why it went out so suddenly, expecting the de regeur diesel spill, I found a patch of some sort of slippery odourless jelly in the road. As far as I can tell, I crashed on a patch of KY Hopefully not used, though. Or, something very like it, perhaps some sort of specialist industrial grease.

No damage to rider- I just stepped off the bike, never even hit the ground- not sure of bike damage... brake lever's bent, front fairing's lost some paint and the side one's cracked at the rear mount. Headlight and screen are scraped too, but not badly, it might polish out. Might have bent the subframe, might not, need to find out.

So barely worth mentioning. Apart from the lubricant used

Well at least you are alright, you have to think that It all could have been a lot worse (for you and the SV). At least the van man was relaxed about it all.

Funny you say that, if it'd been summer it'd probably have been worse, today was a pretty dry warm day (this morning at least) but I'm in winter mode now and taking things pretty easy, in summer I'd have been carrying a load more speed there.

Yeah, all definately fixable. I might just leave it for now, at least 2 of the front panels will want new paint and I really can't be bothered. I'll have another look at it tonight. It's a funny set of damage, the bike was almost on its side when I thumped the van so the crash bung's barely scratched but the top fairing took all of the hit- the side panel's almost untouched but the rear mount snapped because the whole thing's been pushed backwards. That's why I think the subframe's probably dinked. We'll see...

It'll be that pavement shagger we read about a while back, probably too excited on his way to see the bicycle ****er.

That will be a perk of living in Scotland. If that happened in England the WVM would have suffered whiplash.

Sorry to hear about your nasty KY Jelly experience.
Very glad you didn't fall under the van and your ok and bike is not too badly hurt.

Why did the KY Jelly cross the road...?
to get to the back passage....
Sorry, that joke was Ar$e
