Why is it that whenever I look for a cheap bike theyre so expensive? It seems that the best place to put your money at the moment isnt in the bank, put it into 2nd hand trail bikes as you can guarantee that if you bought it cheap in the summer, you could stick a ridiculous price on it in the winter. Ive seen 1986 bikes (21years old!) going for £650 starting bid with no test!!
Anything worth looking at is at least £1k. Where are the £500 10 year old bikes which could run for a couple of years?! Cars are cheaper! |

I know but it seems that prices just bottom out on these bikes....and then inflation takes care of any appreciation in price. Im moving jobs in February so it means ill only be a few miles from work. I thought as a result I would get myself a little 125 trailie (probably a DT as always wanted one from 17 yr old) so that I could pootle to work & back but theyre pretty costly!

I feel your pain fella, I've been sniffing around for a cheap little 125 for the missus to learn on. You'd have thought a wee old Honda CG or something shouldn't be hard to find on the cheap but the only one around £500 was away down in Landan innit...

I've been looking at a 125 for a mate too and they are horribly expensive. Big old bikes are cheap as chips though. I got an FJ1200 last month for £500 - try getting that sort of performance in a car at that money.
He's now thinking DAS because of the problem you describe. |

Aye, bigger bikes seem cheap, get yourself a CX500 for virtually nothing (as long as you dont mind it in brown). Anything which has the slightest capability to go onto the rough stuff will almost always see 4 figures. I would have thought with about £500-£600 you could get a 10 yr old DRZ or DT but no, theyre at least £1k if not more.

IMO the prices of 125s are higher than they should be due to learners wanting them, get far more bike for your money with the bigger stuff.
