Default British pilots are great when the bird hits the fan...

If you're into aircraft and whatnot you might enjoy this youtube vid of a plane losing an engine on takeoff at Manchester and coming back. The guys are so cool on the radio, considering the engine is going BAM BAM BAM haha

Great crew and ATC

Agreed. Anyone remember the Kegworth air crash? Have a personal connection with that for reasons too off topic to go into, but I remember hearing transcripts of cockpit voice recordings at one of the inquests. It's staggeringly sobering how calm and precise they were when the plane was literally catching fire around them; and deeply haunting how it's only in the final seconds, even fractions of seconds that basic human fears are heard.

Memorial in Kegworth and a plaque on the M1.

Interesting vid, the calmness of the pilots shows how much they train for that sort of thing.
Very British way to deal with it too, "One of the engines is belching flames, how very inconvenient"

We now use that piece of film when teaching new pilots, it's a text book example of how to deal with the situation.

It's a fine british tradition...

Having said that, the pilot of one of the scotair flights I got into city was british, and gave us a perfect announcement "Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to cross the border into england and ****ing ****! Woo! Sorry! That was a big bump eh? Excuse my French"
