Has anyone else read this weeks Kevin Ash's column in mcn?
Guy is a grade A tw*t!! Why?? Well this week its all about accidents-mainly ones where youve been rear ended and one quote that stands right out: "GETTING REAR ENDED IS NOBODY ELSE'S FAULT BUT YOURS" and "SERIOUS ABOUT REDUCING RISKS? THEN STOP BLAMING OTHERS" Youve gotto read it to believe what hes wrote, i'll try and scan it Last edited by Paws; 03-01-08 at 06:14 PM. |

Havnt read it, but if theyre the quotes i think its safe to say hes a tw*t. My dad was rear ended in slovenia, while sitting in a cue of traffic, stationary, feet down, behind two trikes. And was rear ended by a drink driver. Definately my dads fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Paws,
Write to Kevin Ash, inviting him down to the Ace on Sunday. Then those of us who have been rear-ended though no fault of our own can give his rear end a good kicking - and then explain to him that it was his fault. Does anyone take *anything* in MCN seriously? |

Ok, I'm the first to advise people to consider how THEIR actions could have affected any accident they have, and I don't usually buy the "it's all everyone elses fault" that a lot of folks spout, but in the case of being rear ended? WTF?
What was his justification for it? In a case of a biker slamming the anchors on, or doing a stoppy without checking mirrors fair enough, but sat at a junction and you get hit can't possibly be your fault! |

'Rear ending typically not one's fault' wouldnt sell many copies of MCN.
Whereas things like this thrive on controversy, alarm, expose, and spy pics. Just sounds like a devil's advocate style piece. |

The article in full:
"You pull up at the traffic lights, which are red, sit up and relax, when suddenly theres a screech of tyres and youre propelled in the air and end up sprawled across a acr's bonnet.Youve been rammed from behind and although youre injured and your bike is damaged there is at least consolation in this clearly being the car drivers fault. Thats what the law says, but is it really? Youd think itd be hard to argue otherwise but if thats your attitude, whats to stop it happening again? if youre serious about reducing the risks when youre riding its time to stop blaming others, time to forget this 65% of accidents are car drivers business and blame yourself. Look at the rear end shunt from a different perspective: cars and other vehicles are no more than hazards it is your responsility to avoid. Dont allocate them any responsiblity for your well being or safety, because there are some, wether through intolrance/drugs/drink or lack of driving ability, who arent capable of carrying that responsibility. You know this, and quite probably you bemoan this situ to others-car drivers are all rubbish arent they, they should be made to ride bikes... So, when you pull up at the traffic lights, you are fully aware that it is possible to be struck from behind and you could conceivably do something about it-yet you let it happen anyway.Get it out your head that other drivers have responsibilities; we are talking about you, on your bike, on the road with all the hazards it can throw at you-errant cars are one of them and you are fully aware of this. Therefore ITS YOUR FAULT. what could you do about it? simple, every time you pull up at the lights, do so in a way where its possible to pull away if a car is sliding up behind you, round a corner, between other cars, even against the lights if it looks clear. Leave your bike in gear with the clutch in, keep checking your mirros. This goes for most other accidents; we know cars pull out from side turnings or that oncoming ones turn right across our path-its the most common type of car-bike accident.Yet WE LET THEM DO IT TO US ANYWAY, AND THAT MAKES IT OUR FAULT. The law gives you money to pick up the pieces, if you prove your case, but then the law doesnt break its leg or get paralysed, it has a safe, omniscient view.Your view is quite different, its personal, and if you get it wrong, it hurts.
