Default Wiring a Car CD Player ?

Anyone know how to wire a car cd player?
I can't get mine to work properly. Well it works, but it doesn't remember anything when you turn the ignition off. So I assumed it must be something wrong with the permanent feed. But I can't see anything wrong with it

The connector in the car has 7 cables, and the connector on the cd player has 4. So maybe one is in the wrong place or needing moved?

The first two pics are of the connector in the car:

And these two pics are of the connector on the cd player:

And this is the diagram in the cd players instructions:

Can anyone help?

There are two loose cables from the cd player but nothing in the car for them to connect to. Plus, I had this cd player in my old car and it worked fine without those two loose cables

I think it has the right adaptor because the connectors all fit, but I could be wrong. But the adaptor came with the cd player when I bought it
I phoned halfords up earlier but they don't have any technicians in just now, and won't till after xmas sometime

It sounds like the continuous 12v and switched ignition power are the wrong way round due to the age of the stereo as most cars and stereos are the same configuration now. If you're brave then try switching them round and I bet it'll work.

I've had to do this before. All I did was cut the wires just after the connector, switch them round, solder them and cover with heatshrink tubing.

Sounds to me like you dont have the right adaptor to go from your car loom into the back of the stereo.

Any idea which is which?
I tried putting a volt meter accross some of them with the ignition off but I got different readings on all of them. One was 9V, one was 11V and one was 12V

I've just thought.................. the car and the cd player are both only a few years old. Well the car is 2003 and the cd player is maybe 2 years old

The permanent live and switched live are the red and yellow wires - just like the instructions say.

It sounds exactly like the permanent and switched lives are crossed. If you feel brave just swap them over in the head unit connector.
There could be a specific adaptor to go from the wiring loom in the car to the loom on the head unit. Is the car a VW? I seem to remember being told that their permanent and switched pins were reversed.

If the other wire hanging out of the back of the stereo is blue, then its a remote connection used for energising auxiliary equipment like amplifiers. I seem to remember a white wire hanging off a previous unit I owned...

PLEASE NOTE - It is Christmas Eve and anything I write is influenced by a certain amount of vodka and Southern Comfort.
