Time has come to get my bike (CBR600RR 03) serviced. 16k is meant to be a full service (valve clearances). I asked at my local garage and they said that it was not necessary to check valve clearances and would just be a waste of money. They are talking themselves out of (probably) £100 here. Just wondered what you guys reckoned?

Well it probably dosnt need it, but its not a bad idea to check it after those miles. Honda wouldnt have recommended it; if this garage dosnt do it, find one that will do it, just for peice of mind

I'd ring another garage / Honda dealer and see what they say. If it were me I'd get them checked though.

Hear what you're saying Dave, but they have serviced my bike a few times and always done a grand job. When I've had it back, they've even gone so far as copper slipping the chain adjusters. I trust their work and the place is always busy so I am sure they know what they are talking about. The bike still runs sweet as and revs fine.

So do you think they are saying it doesnt need checking because they know your bike and they think its OK ?

I guess its down to whether you trust them, which from what you've said you do.
If it were me I'd have a niggling doubt in my head about it though and if something did go wrong because they hadnt been checked, I'd then be really cross with myself for not having it done. But thats just me.
