Going to upgrade the brake pads and with £20 M&P voucher (which I won in photo comp) im going to spend it on a set of EBC HH pads. The original discs have done 12k at the mo. If i was to upgrade to the HH pads, what kind of mileage am I looking from the discs before replacement? Ive heard they eat brake discs however at £125 a disc its quite expensive if they do!
Any ideas? |

Blinkin fairy stories!! ![]() Having said that, it's difficult to ride not using a fraction of the extra power, so there will be a slight reduction in disc life as opposed to reatining the standard pads. I've supplied EBC HH pads since they came out around 10 years ago, & can state that they're no worse when it comes to disc wear than any other. I would expect that a 10% reduction in disc life to be the norm with most riders if they switch to a high friction compound.....Disc life is the proverbial piece of string, some riders go through discs at an alarming rate & some don't. Personal opinion on HH type pads, is that you need to use them hard and warm. By that when you first move from a standard pad, you get the feeling they are not biting. This can be a tad disconcerting until you get used to them.

Most people reckon the Carbon Lorraine SBK3 offer similiar bite and are kinder on discs... I think it also depends on how the pads wear, frinstance Armstrong's HH pads offer very good braking power and barely seem to touch the discs, but my last set lasted me only about 6000 miles if memory serves, including over 1000 miles of motorways- which is obviously mad. But then, they're cheap and discs aren't.
I used EBC HH in the SV and was very pleased with them, I only had them on for about 10000 miles but the discs weren't drastically worn. At the end of the day it's all about how you ride.

Used my EBC HH pads for about 5000 miles so far and like them, no issues with them at the 'Ring or in the Alps, and seem to be a little better at stopping, with a better lever feel. Not sure how much of that is just having new pads, and how much of that was having the EBC pads specifically. Got mine from Tillstones in Stockton, can't remember what I paid.

I fitted EBC double H pads and braided hoses to my K7 650, this mod gives a much better feel at the lever and slightly better initial bite & braking power.
I would recommend this mod plus upgrading the front springs and fork oil to give a more controlled(less dive) feel during braking. I have not noticed any wear on the discs. If your bike is more than a few years old braided hoses and fresh brake fluid is a MUST when replacing pads. |
