Mapping a 33bhp ECU for a new can..

Ive finally decided to treat myself to a new can for my K6 SV, and im looking at a Scorpion street extreme..

Only problem is im on a 33bhp license, so is it possible/necessary to get the 33bhp ECU remapped to suit the can? im guessing that as its a stubby there's even more reason to get the fuelling sorted out?

Obviously this is all provisional on the insurance company not charging me the earth to add the can to my policy, but any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated..

I'd doubt you'd need any remapping doing.

And your insurance shouldn't really cosy you anything extra - just make sure you tell 'em.

thats a thought - do i need to do anything to a restricted engine on my '99 since it now has a CCC stainless can?

maultin, hows the bike felt since you put the can on? an did your insurance company charge you extra for adding it on?

Right let's get things pointed out correctly here about end cans on the SV:

1) No it doesn't add power to your bike. The standard exhaust doesn't restrict the engine so all you get is a different engine noise. You don't have to remap the ECU or rejet the carbs if you are only fitting an end can.
2) Yes you have to cut the downpipe to do it. Make sure that the can is for your model of bike (curvy or pointy).
3) Be aware that you can is road legal or not. There are implications if it is not road legal. There is plenty of talk about it on the forum, use the search function.
4) You MUST tell your insurance company, not telling them might (or probably will) make you insurance null and void. However since it's an SV you can tell them that the can is NOT a performance enhancing can, most insurance companies don't charge extra for that. But they will ask if the can is road legal or not and can get quite arsey about it.
5) USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. This topic is well covered on the forum.

i had a can on when 33bhp and it does'nt need remapping...... i had a mate check it free on his dyno at work and it was still 33bhp

not been out on the bike since & havent told the insurance anything about it.
should i have informed them?

No need to remap/rejet your SV's maultin and mc_phers0n. Best to tell your insurance company though, its not a performance enhancing can, as you can void your insurance by not disclosing things to them. Its best to tell them about all modifications, if you are ever involved in a serious accident you are not gonna want any complications with invalid insurance!
