I was just out on my bike there and every so often the tacho and speedo cut out and it feels like its only runnin on one cylinder. Its a 00 sv650s. Has 50k on the clock.its happened about 3 times in the last week. it just kicks back in then after a few seconds. It only seems to happen if its wet out but i have the front fender extender fitted. I read the thread on runnin on one, but my bike hasnt been left lying up at all. any ideas???

Hey,
it could be that the wet is causing your side stand switch (or handlebar kill switch) to engage. [not physically engage, but a connection between the poles) My sv is only a year old and I just had to get the handle bar killswitch replaced under warranty cos it cut out & i had the same symptoms; no power and the gauges dropped. hope this helps, |

Yeah ill check it out tomorrow. i have a service kit to fit so ill have a look around and see. I woulda thought them 2 switches would be sealed against the elements though. especially the stand switch with its location. thanks though

Check the simple stuff first, loose battery terminals can play merry hell with electrics. The curvy SVs are also known for wearing throught the wiring loom in the tail unit and under the rider's seat on the left side where they pass behind the seat mounting bolt. Have a quick look there as well as the side stand switch, clutch switch and kill switch as mentioned above
