Hi all,
Just bought some new mini indis, shop said they'd be right for the SV. Was told to simply disconnect and unplug the old ones (Halfrauds cheap jobbies) and plug in the new ones. I connected them up and tried them left hand side one is on permanent when indi switch is on and the right one blinks like crazy. Perhaps fitting these is a bit more complex than I imagined but due to my lack of understanding electrics I'm stumped at what the problem can be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Are they led indicators by any chance?
If they are you will either have to fit an inline resistor or replace the flasher unit. Pixie |

Hi Pixie,
I'd read on here the probs with fitting LED's. Checked with the guy in the shop,he wasn't 100% but was confident they weren't LED's. There's no reference to LED on the packaging only to them being Halogen. May take em back and exchange them as I prefer to ride than spanner, but saying that its always good to do a bit for the satifaction. Paul ![]() |

Does it have any reference on the packaging to the power requirements? Because it sounds like they are lower powered than the stock indys and thats causing them to flash too fast.. An inline resistor should bring the flash rate back to a nice legal rate (1 flash per second I think).

Now I'm getting somewhere. The instructions say there are 2 poss solutions. 1). Change existing flasher relay to one which is not load dependent or 2). Use 10 ohm power resistor with rating of atleast 15w. Must be connected 'in parallel' with the flasher. Which is the best/easiest to do? Cheers, Paul |

Neither are particularly difficult...
1) Gonna cost about a tenner and is just a matter of swapping out the flasher unit and this is gonna be your neatest solution. Go down to your local friendly shop and ask them, you could take down your existing flasher to speed things up (although I would imagine they have a catologue they can check in) 2) Go buy some shrink wrap tubing, wire and soliering iron (with solder of course), cut the wire leading to each indy. Strip each of the ends to reveal a nice but not too long piece of the inside wire and place abit shrink wrap on then solder a bit of wire and the resisitor. Repeat with the other side of the cut indy wire and then once done move the shrink wrap down to cover your soldering then roll soldering iron over the shrink wrap to make it shrink into place. Should make it a relatively neat job and should cost about ?3. If I were you go with option 1 as you have already said you would rather ride than spanner. |

Must be connected 'in parallel' with the flasher ?
Do you just place a resistor on the negative wire? or just put one down by the relay? |

In parallel means it needs to go across the positive and negative wire of the indies
i used seperate resisitirs for each indie as theyre pretty cheap and it was easier to solder off the bike

Think I'm gonna give the resistors a bash, don't know what I'm doin fully but I'll give it a bash. Time to revise what bits n pieces I need to get.
I'm determined to do somethin instead of keep taking it somewhere. Soldering iron Solder Resisitors Shrink sleeve stuff Patience and some divine inspiration That should be sufficient. |

In parallel means that the electricity involved has two paths to go down sorta thing. So in this case the wire and the resistor. It is very difficult to describe in words but hopefully you can see what is meant.
That should indeed be sufficient but don't forget to get some wire (for the other path of electricity). Best of luck and let us know how you get on. |
