Default Another shock thread!

Ok, before you all shout at me, I have searched but cannot come up with an answer to my query

Which is

Which is the best GSXR rear shock for my bike (curvy 1999 svs)? Given that I am 57kg in weight, often have a 10 kg topbox on and occasionally a 50kg maria. I think a kawasaki rear shock might be too hard (they seem to have a reputation for that) so a GSXR shock might suit me more?

Cheers

Matt

Matt you barely weigh more than a girl, get some food down you I know being a student you're probably strapped for cash but you've got to eat.

Sorry for the derail.

lol Maybe; but then maria isnt on the back as often as I ride alone (oo-er)

I just dont want to go overly stiff and get chucked out of the seat every time I hit a bump

And tim...i eat alot! Its just the way I am I guess.

With that 10kg top box you are 12 and a bit stone ... and that top box is right at the rear ... so lets say - without actually trying to calculate it - about the same load on the rear end as a 13st as a rider would be ...

A 636 shock is ideal for a 13st rider and we haven't even got Maria on the rear yet

I really don't see a 636 shock is to far off ... but I do see a GIXER one might be, especially with a combined 20st on board

Ah, since you put it that way blue, i think you might be right. What year is the best? Will it involve any other modification (I would really rather avoid that) to e.g. the battery box?

I think it is the 03/04 .... the list is out there somewhere!!

And yes, you will need to cut the battery box a bit so there is room for the reservoir.

'05 is a bit better than the earlier ones. If you've got the $$ then get a late model GSXR shock, take it along to a suspension specialist and get them to rebuild it to suit. (It will need to be re-sprung and have shaft lengthened etc)
