Ive raised this question quite a few times on the org, its about the ticking noise from my engine.. it sounds like its coming from the gubbins inbetween the V of the engine casing..
The ticking The ticking noise is apparent in low gears at higher revs 5k upwards and if you rev the engine or just increase throttle it gets faster, my ideas on what it could be are A, the FI pulsing and ticking away B, the cam chain tensioners c, the spark plugs sparking away i would greatly appreciate some help on this and if you have time can you nip out to the garage start your pointy kneel by its right side and rev the throttle a few times..and listen for a ticking.. i just need to know its normal lol, because i cant ever remember hearing it in the past before i binned my bike, it could of been there all along.. all of the people who ive asked said it sounds fine, but it can be noticed over the engine noise in day to day riding so it must be loud enough i really hope im just a nervous nelly lol, ![]() |

it's normal, no need to worry, i solved it by fitting the street extreme exhaust, now i can't hear anything apart from a noise that can only be compared to the end of the world

no idea, as it only occurs on the throttle i'd be inclined to say it's the FI, but the fact that they all seem to do it would say that it's nothing to worry about...

I've no idea if mine does it or not TBH. I'll check at lunch though (always good to rev the bike in the car park for no apparent reason).
I too have mod'ed the sound of my bike (de-snorkel and scorpion can), so I'm not sure what I can hear above that noise. FWIW, If it sounds to be coming from between the V, have you checked to see if this ticking is in time to cylinder compression? Simple way to do this, would be to rev the bike while listening for the tick/tap noise. Then stand up, and rev the bike the same amount whilst holding your (gloved) hand near the outlet on the exhaust. (If in any doubt it's safer to use paper, then you don't burn yourself if it backfires.) If the ticking sounds about the same time as the pressure you feel, then I'd say it's FI doing it's thing. I don't think I've ever heard a spark plug sparking whilst it's in the engine block, on any engine. I know I wouldn't hear it outside the engine block with my exhaust!! |

There is a gentle ticking; I asked my dad about this after ljharmmets problems when he had ticking...then a dead engine. My dad asked how loud it is, and I said not overly loud, it cant be heard at tick over; his reply was its probably the tappets (which I assume is to do with the valves), tap-tapping away as they open and close
