Dont ask me as my toolkit requires a GS to lug it.
As a minimum whatever you need to get each wheel off and on, right sized spanner for rim locks if you have them, tyre levers plus plastic rim protectors if fussy, spare tube or tubes. Small bicycle pump (unsure what most carry, I carry a compressor ![]() But the essential minimum is the stuff to swap out a tube. I personally think its better to carry a tube than a repair kit as a new tube is certain. You need to email Pumpy on advrider (she is skiing this week though I think) she is a great friend of mine and trail rides a DR and her partner Possu knows his stuff so they will know exactly what you need and as importantly what you dont need!!!). Possu will also tell you the essesntial DRZ mods, I cant remember but there are a couple cheap things advised, sprocket cover or something and something else. |

Done quite a bit of this a fair while back, the bikes have to be road legal as green lanes although not "paved" they are highways and come under the same rules.
Generally enough tools to mend a puncture ( bear in mind it's normally innertubes so you need tyre levers as well) and a basic normal tool kit (spoke key is always useful for checking). you might want to try These guys a bit stuck up and rightious, but do have all the local routes mapped and do organised rides. bit of advice invest in brushguards (the ones that mount threw the end of the bars) not only saves a few bruised fingers, but saves the odd lever as well. Great fun though, what bike you getting for it ? Cheers Mark.

Have a look in TBM (magazine). Its full of useful bits of info for the experienced and novice alike. Where do you live? If its not far from Gloucestershire I can recommend some ace places to go. They're legal too. A lot of the places on the Outdoor Leisure maps are now illegal due to the NERC Bill so make sure you get an up to date map. You can legally ride along UCR's (unclassified roads) but not on RB's (restricted by-ways) These were previously known as B.O.A.T's (By-ways open to all traffic) and R.U.P.P's (roads used as a public path) respectively. Theres still a bit of grey area concerning the use of some of these routes as well as the penalties if you get caught.
Also, if you get caught riding somewhere you shouldn't, ie an Army training area or Forestry Commission enclosure, your bike WILL be impounded and crushed. They DO have a legal right to do this, no matter what anyone says in the posts that follow. I've seen it happen on numerous occasions - luckily not to me!!
