Default Bang from the tank

Went out on a ride out yesterday around 60 mile just slowing down at some lights and BANG! as i changed down a gear. Wasn't the usual exhaust noise, it came from under the tank and i felt it between my legs(oh err!) some i'm pressuming its backfire through the airbox.

The problem is that when slowing down to a stop it sounds like the bikes going to die and then comes back up to idle few seconds later. It sounds like the idle speed needs adjusting at first but then it comes back to normal.

Is this co-incidence? or has something gone wrong?

OK so FI then,do the can's make it run at all lean do you know or was it remapped at the time ? that's a start, was it just the one or has it happend again since or before ?

I'd probably lift the tank and make sure everything is sealed properly the "backfire" could well have lifted the airbox or even shifted an injector a bit, knocked off a vaccum hose , this would made the engine revs drop perhaps below stall point when shutting down because of air leaks?

Cheers Mark.

FI is as standard mapping as i am aware. Not sure if its running lean.

Its the first time its done this and only did it the once.

I'm going to go get the tank off now and have a pootle around. Bikes going in for a service in a few weeks so i'll get it checked for FI running lean.

I'll take a look and report back,

Cheers

My SV1000SZ does it too. Sounds like it's going to blow the tank clean off. Did it in totally standard trim and still does it with the BOS cans even though it runs smoother with them on. Done it maybe 5 times since the first last summer. I stopped worrying about it. Tends to be after I run in traffic for a while, maybe filtering. What does yout temp gauge go up to in traffic?

Checked it all over and all seems ok.

Ratty, temp guage goes up to around 103 when fan kicks in, hightest i've seen is 106 which is filtering through traffic on way to work.

I'll take it out again tomorrow and see if its alreet.

Cheers again guys!

Yoshi cans!? How the hell do you afford the bike and the bits!? erm how old are you?

On subject, my SV650 did it too. Feels like the engine will die but it doesnt. Nothing to worry about imo.
