Well- basically had to emergency stop- not enough space. Just as I was actually coming to a standstill, just caught rear bumper of car in front of me on the nearside corner of car.
All that was there was a slight dent scrape a bit bigger than a 50p. I have suggested to the other driver to get a quote and I'll look at covering it myself, rather than go through the insurance. So- should I inform insurance anyway right now, or wait until I get the quote? In the worst case, it'll be a coachworks suggesting a complete respray for £100's or a mechanic getting the bump out and smoothing the scrape in the paint work (silver car)- probably up to £100. I know that technically, it's been an incident and I should inform them anyway, but in a similar situation with my car*a few years ago, they presented no issues when I called a week later... |

See what the quote is, if you don't like it go to the insco. But remember, you'll pay the excess and extra next year and the year after, so factor that into your costs.

I agree with Lozzo. There is time limit when reporting an incident to an insurance company but its usually a month or two, unlike the police where you have 24hrs.

I don't think there is a time limit.

Cheers y'all- well I don't have any no claims, so my premium won't go up drastically next year- that's one thing. The excess has just halved, as the insurer has changed (I had a claim against me last year!).
So I think that really, I'll just have to see- it's also down to how much it'll be as I don't have much cash in the bank. As I'm not claiming on my bike (no damage), I won't pay an excess for this, but I would prefer to at least get 1 year with no claims. If it's sub £100, then I'll cough up. Otherwise, I'll just have to go through the insurers... |

Hopefully it'll just be a simple job- I reckon 2 hours for a mechanic roughly. The rest of the car was spotless and she's insured with Ford insurance- so chances are she'll be off to a Ford dealer to get it done- not sure what the odds will be therefore on a reasonable deal!!!
Oh dear. Sod's law. I've been really hoping for an incident free year and maybe getting some no claims under my belt- is currently £560 fully comp. Would be nice to get that down a bit. I'll never have any money!!!! Still- lesson learned- pay more attention and allow more distance to car in front. Maybe I'm just getting a little too racey. |
