Default Valter Moto Rearsets

Anyone used them and if so what are they like?

Reason I ask is because I need some for my CBR600 FW trackbike, but as it's a 98 model I'm having trouble finding good enough ones to fit. I've seen the quality of the 99 quid ones on ebay and they are dire - we put some on the ZX10R race bike and the brake pedal pivot was worn out in 3 meetings as there's no bearing in there. Before I even put them on the bike they needed serious mods to make them work without the rear brake sticking on and to make it possible to change gear smoothly. On top of that I was having to strip them off the bike and retighten every bolt between races - Loctite wouldn't even hold the screws and bits on because the tolerances were so sloppy.

The standard rearsets need replacing because both left hangers I have are bent and my foot slips off the peg (scary when it happens if you're knee-down), also I found myself dragging the right footrest on Oulton's hairpin and on the left at the Knickerbrook chicane, even with the hero blobs removed.

Any opinions welcome.

I've got Valtermotos on teh SV... They're well made and look nice, well finished too, and the pegs are solid and nonslippy... but I've been pretty unimpressed with how well they crash, twice I've crashed with them on, once the peg sheared off on impact (not a big impact, a nice gentle 30-40mph lowside) and the other time, the peg didn't touch down til the bike was basically stationary (hit a van, doh!) and yet it still bend enough to break the bushing and lock the lever. Both times I'd have been better with OEM I think.

But, next time might be better, you never know. The parts are pretty esay to find too, to get new pegs I just bought a whole set for another bike for ?30 off Ebay.

Lozzo, have you tried the Diamond Race Supplies rearsets? I bought a set for my SV race bike and the quality was very good.

They only make them for more modern bikes. I love the quality of them but unless they suddenly decide to tool up for a 10 year old bike I won't be seeing those on my CBR

The crashing side doesn't bother me really, because I'll take stock rearsets with me JIC. If they break they break, it's a trackbike so I won't get all bleary eyed about a few knocks and broken bits. I can buy certain parts trackside if needed.

What I wanted to know more than anything is whether they wear badly at the pivots, if the tolerances are too loose etc, and you've sort of answered that - thanks.

You could mail them with the spacing for the mounting holes on your CBR. Pretty likely that they have a set to suit. Try this guy, Mick, on enquiries@diasec.co.uk. He's been very helpful.

Ah, well, I can go a wee bit further on that, they use bushings rather than bearings but don't wear too fast- my sets were both fairly well used and I put about another 5000 miles on 'em, and they're still working well, with a little play but not bad for a used part- not amazing swiss watch tolerancing but more than good enough I think.

Thanks, will do. I'll send him photos so he knows what I am looking at doing.

Tbh I don't think there's another 5000 miles left in this bike while I own it. It's track only now, and if a nice Gixer 600 comes along at the right price then this one is going.

It looks like PDQ can expect a call soon
