What is it with Insurance Companies?

As you know I wrote my bike off in January. It is a total loss, so, I thought, Being fully comp, there shouldn't be any problems with them paying out. 2 weeks ago I agreed with the figure they gave me & they said that they would send the cheque within a couple of days.
I have bid & provisionally bought an SV off Ebay thinking the money would have turned up.
I rang the insurance last week to see where the cheque was, they said they would sort it out straight away.
I've rang them again the day before yesterday asking where the cheque is. The lady told me that it had been overlooked & she couldn't understand why it hadn't been sent and it would be dispatched 1st class post yesterday.
Guess what? still no cheque. Easter is now upon us, so, IF I'm lucky, it will arrive on my doostep on Saturday, but wont be processed by the bank until Tuesday, up to a week before it's cleared, so I'm looking at another fortnight before I can get a bike.
Insurance companies like taking money, but a bit slow at paying out.

Thats normal i'm afraid. If they keep everyones money for an extra month they accrue a decent amount of interest.

insurances...bah there all scamming barstewards,they like to take but funnily enough seem to have a problem handing back.

I am in the same boat as you,wrote bike off in January still no cheque.When I phonen they said that,we are waiting for me to send in my insurance details tax book and other keys.This was the first I had heard of them wanting this stuff.Now all is sent so am awaiting there response.

yep same with me, i waited weeks and weeks and in the end i posted everything special delivery to my insurance co and hey presto my cheque arrived about a week later, they are fast to take our money but never like giving it away.
