Default Project Phoenix

Ok I am about to embark on a new project … I have taken leave of my senses and taken pity on this wounded animal:- http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=91169 … bearing in mind at a glance it needs a new frame (seen a pic of the crack and my prognosis is its only good for the bin), and as the frame is cracked from a frontal, I can only assume forks, front wheel, yokes, probably discs are gone too … also needs bodywork and a clock bracket … and that’s just the stuff I KNOW I will need … my brain says NO … my heart however … is, well, stupid!!

Ok ASM-Forever has said he would like to see it live again rather than just be broken for parts … I too want to make it live again. I have assured him when it is complete that I will fit my camera to it and he will see the phoenix bike in track action.

If you are interested in seeing this project completed then read on:-

Right, so although I have taken leave of my senses, I am tight (I prefer sensible with money, but you can call it tight if you like ) and I don’t want this project to run into stupid money – i.e. to figures where I could have just bought a ‘good’ one to start with and its not like I don't already have a trackbike (or 3 )!

Bearing in mind the extent of the damage, it would be all to easy to run over budget. To try and keep it economically viable, I am prepared to swap/trade in parts to ‘realise’ some cash from bits I don’t need … like I could part-x the clocks (24k) for higher mileage clocks +cash, or even clocks that have a broken speedo (the rev counter HAS to work though). Also the tank looks to be ok, so again, trade in any battered tank (i.e I don’t care about dents but it has to be usable).

Also if you want any bits that I don’t need, like rear seat, rear side panels, fairing lowers. Then a fair price/swap can be arranged, this will all go back in the pot to try and keep this viable.

Also I need to source parts at ‘good’ prices … again I don’t care what they look like but they HAVE to be 100% ‘straight’, so if you have them then get in touch.

These are the show stoppers:-

- Frame - has to be straight, but I don’t care if it has scrapes or minor dents on it
- ‘Front end’ – basically yokes, forks and front wheel.

Requirements
- Fairing/clocks stay.
- Race fairing
- Race can (bruised and battered, don't care as long as it is cheap)

If people are interested in seeing this project through its stages and gradually see Phoenix come back to life, then I can keep a blog/thread of its progress on here … I’d even be happy to slap some BIG .org stickers on it if the site donates them

I do have the luxury of time to try and source parts cheap (eBay bargains for example are out there if you catch stuff at the right time (i.e. when no one else wants/needs it )). But my aim is to have it on track before the end of the year!! I am however not going to pay through the nose for parts to make this happen!! ... winter is a great time to find parts with low demand, so I may be forced to push my completion date to 08 if I don't trip on stuff at the right price in time ...

You just need an SV thats been rear-ended....a lesser man might suggest going covertly to AR07 in your van

Yep you're nuts. You'll have to buy a 5th SV for a good frame

I dunno, bearing in mind they are not worth much these days, there are plenty of curvy SVs that get written off for just minor cosmetic stuff ... many people would then break it ... the engine, and all the paraphernalia will be easy enough to sell/shift ... but nine times out of ten you will end up with a rolling chassis (certainly a frame and backend) that no one wants ... at that point there is no demand and prices fall to Blue_ levels as it is just getting in peoples way and they want shot!!

For example, here is a frame AND engine for £99 - no bids ebay Clicky ... Only problem is it is in Helston (near lands End) That's prolly why someone hasn't bid on it for the engine alone ... anyway, somone buys this for teh motor ... they then have a frame they want shot of ... Blue picks up a good frame for £30-50

To be honest for £99 it might be ergonomically viable for me to drive there and flog the engine to re-coupe the fuel costs ... but that is just too much hassle when I can just wait for something similar but closer

Blue, may have some euro clocks with working rev counter and speedo, reads in KM/H, low kms to (18-19k I think). Either sale or swap + cash = hugger?

Cheeky get!!

I just realised that my dad lives about 2/3 of the way to that frame/lump - suppose I could use it as an excuse to visit the old boy ... it'd break up me journey and I could grab a free feed if nothing else!!

Eh? So you have some euro clocks (KMH) you are happy to part-x, you want MPH clocks, you also want the hugger right?

Happy with a trade in of the KMH clocks (I'll leave the speedo disconnected anyway, so it matters none to me! ) and I don't need the hugger.

What are you willing to offer for the hugger and clocks (including the part-x'd euro clocks).

Lets find out what the hugger is worth new, presuming it is in good order, you can have it for half that and you can have the clocks upgrade for £15, (I'll check these ones work first ).
