Default Monorack question

Hi there,

I solved my commuting problem by getting a (cheap) Givi E470 topbox. It easy to remove so I guess I'll learn to live with it. Or then I'll just go over to the dark side...

Anyway, I already have a Monorack for the pointy, which sucks as I have a curvy. No problems there, but you just can't make it fit... I then found a Monorack for curvy and now looking forward of getting that delivered.

The one I have for the pointy has tubes for installing sidebags, but the one for curvy doesn't. Any ideas if the same tubes would fit? I guess the difference in these setups is in the 'main' rack, and therefore the additional stuff would fit anyway?

Cheers.

Hiya Kyytsis,

Is the sun out yet?

Pic below is of a curvy monorack. I reckon it'll be totally different to a pointy one so the extra bits won't fit. Maybe you could "adapt" them though. Let us know if you do.

Hi Pete!

I saw the sun just a couple of days ago; has been a very crappy winter... In December we had 20 hours of sunlight in Helsinki

Thanks for the picture of the rack; indeed it's very different... The side bag mounts I have would probably need to be welded on it. I'm not going to do it as most of the time I wont be using the bags at all and therefore don't want any extra pieces on the bike.

Have to sell the extra rack to some pointy guy.

They wont have it, they dont want to make their pointies any uglier. A curvy can take it you see, cos its a gorgoues design which a topbox dosnt degrade too much

LOL.

I managed to find a naked-pointy-owner who wanted to get the rack... I had forgotten how much I was asking for it, and now I seem to get "back in black", including a top box.. He asked me about how it would look on his bike, and I told that it will be the most beutiful thing anyone has ever seen sticking out from any bikes ****.

Hey Pete!

I just got back in from the rain.. Decided to install the Monorack today. It is different than what you have in the picture. The main-frame is similar, the ent bolts on to the passanger foot peg mounts and the other end has a plate for the case... But in between there are some diffs. My version has pivoted mounts that slide inside the frame and are secured with bolts. You have to remove the rear fairings for install.

It wasn't too difficult to do, just some annoyances; like the two screws that 'hold' the rear of the fairing in place.. Didn't put thos back... I'll consider when I install an undertray; the rear isn't too pretty with the Monorack, but might be better when the horrible plastic thingy is cut away.

Probably there is no way to install the side cases with the monorack, I'll continue with the soft luggage.

Cheers,
Ville

Hi Ville,

Welcome to the most beautiful accessory you can put on your SV club

Actually we have the same brackets that go into the square section of the subframe. Hadn't got pics then. I take the rack off when it's not required, leaving the brackets in place. Hardly notice them. It's quite easy to fiddle the rack off although having small indicators help. Did you forget about the two self-tapping screws under the mudgaurd then? I did, and put a crack in one of the plastics.

Hi Pete, You are right; the first picture fooled me - it looks like there would be some extra bits (the 'dog bone' and some other bracket?) that I don't have. What are those for?

It seems to be easy enough to remove the installation by just removing the 4 bolts. Which is good as it looks hideous.. I managed to damage the thread of the other footpeg bolt, need to find a replacement there.

Cheers Pete.

Another member of the "I love my bike to be practicle" club Welcome! Tea and coffee and biscuts over there, and we'll be having a "who can cram in the most sandwiches in their topbox" competition in about half an hour.
