Default A question for the biker girls.....

the boys probably don't care that much.

I need some ideas, how to keep my hair in reasonable shape wearing a helmet. I go dancing a lot and would like to look nice-ish, when I get there (The same applies for my upcoming bike holiday). In good weather, I don't want to go by car just because of my hairdo. I've got a just over chin length bob.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks
Linda

Ah, I dont think theres any way to combat the curse of the helmet hair.

Its ying and yang you see; for every good thing that happens (riding bike), something bad will offset it (helmet hair)

Mind you, if there IS a way, then im sure my girlfreind would love to know

+1, my girlfriends determines and rota's her time on the bike depending on when her hair needs doing etc, although she has started having it curly which is nice and the bike doesnt effect it.

I am afraid that there is no really good way of over coming helmet hair except going for the more trendy, less tidy look.

I give my hair a good brushing before and after a ride and carry a hair brush in my handbag. Hair spray does make a difference when I am out on the mountain bike, but it does get a bit itchy with a full face lid.

As for Carol, she just looks great with the windswept look!

Mines long and in layers which are very short on the top - I put the long bit into a plait and when I remove my lid I just ruffle the top loose bits and hey presto.....d'oh - I have messy helmet hair!!

sorry that didnt help did it! but I did once meet a girl biker in the ladies at a bike event with the most amazing glossy sleek straigtened hair and I asked her how she managed that - she said she used "product" (not sure what that is!), straightened it and then brushed it through when she removed her lid - hth

my hair ---->
her hair ---->

Solution - Don't wear a helmet.

Teacher - "And we all know what that means don't we kids?"
Altogether - "Don't ride your bike without a helmet"

Seriously, being a bit of a tart meself I used to worry about the state of my hair for when I was trying to impress the missus, now after 11 months, I shaved it off and said its so much better for helmet hair love

Wear a Balaclava is the best option, put your hair in there perfectly, slip the helmet over your head and your away.

Clearly she was lying and didn't arive by bike, as the curse of helmet hair cannot be avoided!

so we're onto a strategy of 'helmet hair' minimisation instead - try:
  • not riding immediately after washing hair (when it's most easily 'influenced')
  • use hairspray
  • take hair band to tie hair back if long enough
  • having scuffy hair which you can ruffle into shape when you get off
  • wear a slinky outfit to distract attention from your hair
HTH

I use products before and after straightening and my hair still looks a mess when I remove my helmet!!

I don`t think there`s any solution.... i tried having layers cut in but now when i take my helmet off the bit of hair that`s layered looks like it`s been crimped and the rest just does its own thing! I have found not washing it the same day you`re riding helps, not tried the hairspray route and even if i tie it back I find it doesn`t help much.

Ladies with long hair, a French plait is both sexy and practical.

(Well I like them and more biker ladies with French Plaits and leathers is to be encouraged! )

or find a place where there's lots of dancing bikers, then everyone will be in the same boat and you'll fit right in

Anyway hair is meant to be ruffled
