Best way is to get hold of a K&N filter service kit, costs about a tenner. In it you get a filter cleaner fluid and a bottle of replacement filter oil. Comes with instructions etc, takes about 30 mins.

I know Demon Tweeks sell them but likely other places too.

Morning old Sport.

As suggested, use the proper K&N stuff. You must let the filter dry completely before oiling it. Don't be tempted to use your hairdryer (MATRON), or any direct heat. Stick it in the airing cupboard or hang it over a radiator etc.

When re-oiling it don't use too much oil, just spray the edge of each pleat lightly & let it stand for 20 minutes or so. This gives the oil time to soak in. When the filter is a nice red colour all over it's ready to re-install. If you over do it your bike will run like a pig!

Cheers.

cheers........

do you oil them though?

back in my moto-x days and now in into trials, some people do, but i never bother, as i find it just makes the filter harder to clear.

maybe its differant with K&N's or road bikes?

Good morning.

It's always best to oil genuine K&N's. Some K&N lookalikes clog completely if you oil them.
In the Moto cross world they ride in very dirty conditions so a lot of riders don't bother oiling filters, as indeed they do attract the dirt. But a genuine K&N should always be lightly oiled using the correct oil.

Cheers.
