Do you use the kill switch? CHEC would indicate that the engine can't be started because the kill has been switched, or you are in gear with the kickstand down, or....

does it stay once the engine is started?
it will come up when you kill the engine with the kill switch amongst other things

could be also because of low oil pressure, bike in gear & side stand out without pulled in clutch, not 100% sure on all the SV FI combinations.

best way is to enable dealer mode, that may give you an error code to work from.

chec means the bike is in gear and side stand is down 100%

Your temperature is fine - the cooling system will (in noddy terms) open & close to keep the temperature within certain pre-set limits. Once it goes above the base limit, the system will open, & cooling will take place. Once it gets a bit too cool then system will close and the temperature will rise. As you've spotted, this then repeats itself as the system cycles.
The CHEC error message could be a number of things as previous posts have mentioned. Make sure you're in neutral (green light showing), kill switch off, clutch in, side stand up. If you still get the error message, try going down the dealer mode route to get an error code as suggested. Do you have an alarm/immobiliser - sometimes that can interfere with things cheers |

That I remember, "CHEC" shows on the LCD for the following reasons:
- Kill switch set to 'Stop' - Bike in gear & sidestand down - FI Fault Type 1 (as shown by a static "FI" on the LCD display). If this is the case the bike is rideable, but should be sorted ASAP. This is typically not enough current getting to the injectors for one reason or another. More often than not the bike won't start, or it'll run on 1 cylinder. - FI Fault Type 2 (as shown by flashing "FI" on the LCD). If this is the case DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE. This is typically a failed injector (expensive). - Low oil level (well, pressure). Don't attempt to start until you've resolved this. In all cases, usually the red light (Oil/FI) will be on, so that's pretty useless. |

hiya daz, I had the exact same problem when I first bought my sv in december - its a k5 pointy and if I start the engine then leave it to stand for say 5 mins, it shows "Chec". Seems to be a recurring glitch on the k3-k5's as someone told me about 6 months ago.
Most often it's to let you know (before starting the engine) you've got the bike in gear, with the sidestand down. If you've checked all the things baph has listed, and they're all fine - it's just a random error. Mine does it every now and again but it's never missed a beat and I check all the bits regularly.
