Hi there, I currently race quads and have a yfz450 with a 523big bore kit on, unfortunatly i am only squeezing out under 60hp after spending around 4k on the motor. Im currently way off the pace of the KTM quads but your looking at around 20k for that package.
Iv been doing a bit of research into the SV motor as the regs will only allow 2 cylinders and a maximum of 750cc in my class. My idea was to buy a scrap or crashed 04/05 SV650 work on that untill im happy with the power output. I'v done a fair bit of research and have settled for this engine as it seems to have plenty of potential. A modification I think I will have to consider is the 750 kit and other engine mods to go with this. Has anyone had any experience with the 750 kit and is the 04/05 motor a stable base to start from. Thankyou for any help. Gareth |

all the motors are technically then same.. the newer ones (03) onwards are fuel injected though which may have it's benefits in a racing package... may be worth looking into that wether carbs or injection is better for your circumstances...

Sounds like an interesting project. Definately go for an injected engine. But if you do go for a 2004 onwards one. Avoid the 03 injected as it has a habbit of the crank going on it, if you are using it for race purposes!

The fuel injected motor also has an oil cooler on it, which the carb motor did not.

As you say they both have their good and bad points, I have a dyno that will setup carbs no problem but will have to find a different dyno specific for injection models.
I have to say id probably go for an 04 onwards and look for a low millage motor. The oil cooler is probably a must if im looking to get the 750 conversion. Is there any further info i can find on the 750 kits and what are avaliable. Im searching around for a damage repair bike but with no luck any tips on where to look? |

I'd say ebay is your best place to look for an engine or a scrapped bike. There is a company called JHS down Bristol way who are probably the best people to speak to about SV engines and modifications. Have you thought about a Ducati 749 engine?

LOL, sorry it isnt. I "heard" of it happening to one of the lads last year and it actually did happen to one of my mates I was sharing a garage with at Snetterton 2 weekends ago. Crank just sheard at the flywheel. I'll see if he has any photos of it.
