I have a good friend in Sydney. The pics I've seen are gorgeous. I can ask him if he has any suggestions if you'd like.

Sydney possibly. Or maybe head north, Noosa maybe or one of the Whitsunday islands on the reef.

I haven't been around much but I absolutely loved Cairnes. They have jungle, city, reef, mountains and beds.

Cairns is nice but touristy but I would go with Byron Bay. Or if you're looking to impress - catch a seaplane from Sydney up the coast to Palm Beach and stay at Jonah's. This is awesome

Byron Bay would get my vote though

Whitsundays, especially if you like / want to do some sailing. Cairns a good spot for diving on the Barrier Reef....and plenty of other stuff to do or not.

Dunno how long you are going for, but yer might want to remember how far it is - and unless going 1st or a decent Biz class might want to consider a decent stopover (or even 2) enroute for a day or 2.....plenty of cool places enroute.......

Cairns gets too bloody hot.

I'd recommend the Whitsundays too. You can go on sailing trips around them for a few days and dive/snorkel around the Great Barrier Reef.
