Default Neighbours

...the variety that live next door, not the Harold Bishop ones.

I'll keep this to the point, and without bias.

What would you do about this, and how would you feel?
  • Neighbour walks out of house, repeatedly staring into our living room if the blinds are tilted the wrong way so they can see in. This requires a 180 degree turn of the neck, but is consistent.
  • Neighbour built fence (before we bought house) that tails down from 6feet near the house, to almost 4 1/2 feet at the end of the garden, allowing extra peerage. Specifically in summer, when you/wife are lazing around the garden
  • Neighbour has webcam in bedroom window, facing street where....
  • Neighbour always ensures that one of their (2) cars is always occupying the space in front of the house.
  • If car space is occupied by a.n.other car, as soon as it moves, neighbour occupies space. (within ~3 minutes). Sometimes the car isn't even started, it just gets rolled 7 metres forward with the door open

(Neighbour has now had quotes to drop kerb to claim right of access)
  • Neighbour appears at front/rear of house to make useless conversation when me or the wife are leaving or coming in
I think thats it, but quite frankly, after 3 and a half years, we're thinking of moving.

It sounds quite sad, I know, but its incredibly depressing at times. We get on, the neighbour is very friendly, but by GOD is it annoying. I've quite spitefully taken my vengeance this weekend by leaving my car in his spot and riding or borrowing Mrs Oogers car. I feel a little better. Logistics dictate that this "bagsy" behaviour can continue until Tuesday (4 nights, a personal best so far)

Sensible answers only please. So far our ideas for the "peeping" are:

Conifers, fast growing ones. 60cm apart.

OK, just one idea then. Help me.

This is a good point. I suppose if you sit there are think "argh stop looking at me" then you've lost already.

Wow, this sounds very much like the problems we have with an old chap who lives next door to us- except yours sound a tad more extreme.... This bloke keeps pigeons and chickens and wanders out god knows how many times during the day to, I would assume, check on them. Except when he goes out it's always just after one of us (usually mum) has gone out to do the same. He has a little window in his pigeon house which he stands and peeps through (his garden being at the top of a sloping 100ft garden). It gets to the point where you walk out into the garden and can guarantee his gate will bang shut about 5 minutes after as he makes his way up the garden . It's got to the point where we really can't enjoy being put in the garden unless he's out which is ridiculous.

He's a harmless enough old chap but he has a wife and grandkids which you'd think were more than enough to keep him occupied but seemingly not. My mum's always complaining about it and how much she wants to move...his cockerels keep her up at all hours too

It's not a pleasant experience living next to a peeper but there's not a lot you can do except erect huge fences/hedges about the place which we are in the process of doing. Everyone is entitled to their privacy, it's a great shame not everyone respects that

P.S if you can avoid bad atmospheres tis generally a good thing, neighbours can be a right pain when you're trying to sell if you're not careful.

  • Neighbour walks out of house, repeatedly staring into our living room if the blinds are tilted the wrong way so they can see in. This requires a 180 degree turn of the neck, but is consistent. - ensure blinds are at the correct angle I guess horizontal blinds & indoors is higher than outdoors so should not take much of an angle to let all the sun in but not the neighbours eyes.
  • Neighbour built fence (before we bought house) that tails down from 6feet near the house, to almost 4 1/2 feet at the end of the garden, allowing extra peerage. Specifically in summer, when you/wife are lazing around the garden - start nude sunbathing, you not the wife, should soon put him off
  • Neighbour has webcam in bedroom window, facing street where....
  • Neighbour always ensures that one of their (2) cars is always occupying the space in front of the house. - so... better than parking in front of yours
  • If car space is occupied by a.n.other car, as soon as it moves, neighbour occupies space. (within ~3 minutes). Sometimes the car isn't even started, it just gets rolled 7 metres forward with the door open

(Neighbour has now had quotes to drop kerb to claim right of access) if this leads to him parking in driveway? all the more parking for you
  • Neighbour appears at front/rear of house to make useless conversation when me or the wife are leaving or coming in - what's his email address, I'll forward this thread to him - pleasantries should soon stop!

Maybe put something infront of the window like some flower pots or a flower bed to stop him getting close enough to peep in

I'd move. This sort of behaviour is so tiresome. You'll never win. Just get the hell out.
