Default Pointy died on me.

So, i was going along hammersmith flyover when the engine note went down a couple of octaves...
then the throttle wasn't giving the push is should when pinned back...similar to when i lost the front cylinder from a wet spark plug...but it was really sunny

then the red oil light, just below the neutral light, came on while the engine was running, and then before i reached a stop the engine cut out and i coasted to standstill...

then when trying to restart the bike the engine sounded clunky as it was turning over but wouldnt start.

any ideas what went wrong?

Hi Faisal,

From memory, if the red oil light comes on when the bike is running, its an oil pressure issue, and unfortunately damage to the engine has probably been done.

Whats the oil level like?

and colour. Although it could be a number of things, but first investigation would be mechanical as it's pretty easy to rule in or out what it is.

well, since i got the bike i could never see oil in the level window...
thing is the LCD level light on the dash (not the 1 that goes red, i mean the 1 near the speedo) was never on either so i assumed the window was just ****ed...
thing is i've only done 2000 miles since i got it

you never checked the oil once in 2k , could possibly be your answer.

i thought the oil just needed changing every 4k...
i thought it was just 2 strokes that drank oil that quickly

but why didnt the oil light on the LCD dash come on either though?

the red light and the LCD icon both come on before the engine ticks over, so they both work...

there never looks to be oil in the window when the bike is on its side stand.. its only when you pull the bike up straight that you can see oil on the window..

if you got it from a shop, take it back and get them to check the fault.

No but having a look in the window gives you an oppourtunity to see if anything is wrong. Most people on here will say the SV doesn't drink much if any between services.

Go outside, get someone to hold the bike upright, check the window if the oil looks okay and is at the right level, chances are it's electrical fault espically if it's ridden in all weather just a wet connector somewhere.
