Default Best way of storing tyres

I've just received 4 new tyres (2 front, 2 rear) and it's probably going to be at least a year before I need to use the last of them (my existing front has at least 3 months use left on it). In the past, I've just propped them up against the wall in the garage for the best part of a year and they seemed fine. Now however, given it will probably be longer before they are used and that I now have the garage space to store them in all manner of ways, what is the "correct" way of storing them? Is on the floor best or up against the wall (get your mind out of the gutter :P)? Do you need to move them about periodically so that you don't get flat spots or is this only an issue with tyres fitted to a bike given there is much less weight on them?

I have spare wood/space to make some sort of frame to hold them on the wall like those proper "tyre racks", this sort of thing:

Is this worthwhile, or do folks think it's overkill?

Ta in advance, chaps and chapesses.

I do high miles and this is likely to go up in the near future. I like to have spares in the garage so if I need new tyres (rear Z6s go from legal and handling fine to down to the mesh in under 100 miles) I can have them fitted straight away (or as I hope to do now, fit them myself) when the tyres wear out rather than waiting 2-3 days for my local tyre shop, where I can carry the wheels to, to order them in at a less than great price. If I see very cheap tyres (or any consumable for that matter) and can afford to at the time, I tend to buy several so I always have spares. Last load of Z6s I got cost me £240 for 4 tyres, these pilot sports were the same. Much cheaper than buying individual tyres as and when you need them. I'm also not overly worried about keeping them for a bit (so long as I store them correctly) as I aware that tyre shops have some tyres (eg for trailers) that have sat unused in the racks for longer lengths of time.

Store them in a cool dark constant-temperature room (i.e. not in the garage unless it is heated during the winter and chilled in the summer ).

I wrap all my tyres up blankets to keep the UV off ... UV is the biggest killer/ager.

As Blue SV650S says.
Do you have a garage with a pit? Best kept above freezing, but otherwise cool. Years ago used nitrogen to inflate F1 tyres - do you have any?
Best bet is to do stacks of miles so the tyres are still young when used.

So, looks like cupboard under the stairs is actually the best bet. Good news for me, not so sure the missus will be as keen.

If you wrap them up in blankets, not only is it extra protection for the tyres, but it keeps the smell at bay a bit too - putrid type ponk WILL get you in trouble!!!
