I've just changed the coolant in my '99 curvy 's following the procedure in the Haynes manual. After flushing out the system, I decided to premix the quantity specified in the manual (ie 50% water and coolant - total 1.6litres). I then followed the procedure and filled the radiator to the bootom of the neck and ran the bike to allow the air to come out, revving it a few times, then went to top up the expansion tank.
When doing this I only put a small ammount in the expansion filler, and was watching for the level on the bottle when the filler overflowed, I was pouring slowly, but there is no visible level on the 'clear' part of the bottle. I ran the engine again with the rad cap on to get any air out again and the level is still near the top of the neck but I can't see anything on the bottle. The coolant is bright blue! Is it likely to just be the plastic which is changed over time so is no longer see through? I have around 250ml left of the mixture. How acurate is the quantity listed in the Haynes manual? Is the level likely to be OK? The level is still up to the bottom of the rad filler neck. Should this be OK? |

Well on my bike so long as the rad is full and there's some in the bottle I can't really be rsed going into much detail with it.
On other peoples bikes I shine a torch down the expansion tank to make it a bit more obvious, the plastic isn't very see through.

Cheers, I presume then as long as the rad is full that no real harm can be caused? There is some in the expansion bottle anyway.

Just check that you don't have a blockage in the u bend (oooo er) from the bottom of the expansion tank. Mine was all gummed up the first time I changed my coolant.
It blew out like a big bogey ![]()

Thats as I understand it, I can see a blockage in the expansion tank pipe being problematic though, due to increased pressure.
