I'm kinda contemplating taking a couple of days off. I need to, probably.
I'm thinking of a canal boat trip for 5 days. it kinda depends on availability/pricing. Also, canal boats are one of those things that you need a first mate for (to open locks whilst you drive through etc). The rest of my family are popping off to Egypt, so I can't ask them. So, .org. If I could get a boat towards the end of May would anyone like to be my be-atch? Sorry First mate? |

Dirk, why the hell do you NEED a first mate for locks?
Pretty simple solution: Drive up to locks (assuming you need to open the first door due to it being closed - otherwise skip this step...) moor up at looks (there's always mooring points). Open lock. Drive in, moor up (remembering to leave a fairly loose line if you're descending ![]() When desending, it's usually better to hold the rope & slowly let it out (careful it doesn't drag you into the lock though ![]() Open lock, drive out (on desends, it may be necessary to pull on the rope to bring the boat back to you as you climb down the ladder). I've done the above a fair bit, takes a little practice, but entirely possible to do locks solo. |

i think, really dave, he wants to tell a human stories about his amazing trip around-the-world-but-cut-off-in-kasakshtan. Somehow, as great as they are, ducks just won;t understand nor comprehend the true awesomeness of his journey.

Umm, days off from what?
![]() Canal boats are great fun and crew wise the more the merrier. Also cost wise the more the merrier! I'd be there in a heartbeat but I'm touring Scotland with the Essex Lounge. Next year or perish in the attempt. ![]() |
