Default holiday entitlement

I am contracted to work April to April, so my holidays run the same. So what do ya know, cheeky buggers in the office ring me today and say...

you know the hols you booked for the AR and for the Ecosse???

yessssssss

well, they were approved at an earlier date, but you don't have any entitlement for holidays left, so if you want to take them you will have to have them unpaid

hmmm thats strange as I've had a couple this month, but not ALL my entitlement, and its only at the beginning of the year

well thats not what we've got here

GRRRRRRRR

Am I missing something or is the humongous company i work for trying to pull the wool over my eyes for some reason, and the person at the end of the phone is completely brainless and has not noticed that there may be something that doesn't quite add up? NO...they are arrogant and proclaim its right
I am going to have to kick some butt again when i get back into work, but for now I shall curl up on the couch and enjoy my sicknote time, as poorly me has got a chest infection on top of another illness, so for now, and don't think your getting away with it

Rant over

If I was you I would go in armed with the days you have had off and see what they wreckon you have taken.

I am work temporarily in a resourcing unit for a government body and look after holidays, if we get a query we check, check and double check.

If you know it's wrong question it chick !!! TELL them they wrong

oh i take great pleasure in putting them right, they hate it when i walk in the office as usually I am the one walking out the door laughing. The only hols I have taken this current tax year are 4 days. .."
because the first 2, factory blew up and our manager gave us the opportunity to take the weekend off..shame, nice guy all he asked was we stayed that night!
and last weekend as i was supposed to be meetin Pan trasher and Baph, but wasted them as I was poorly iick

I'm pretty sure that equates to not using all my holidays up....

Another case of your own company making life more difficult than it should be.

I travel a lot so I don’t work in the office, but every time I take a holiday i give them written notice and save my own excel sheet with my holidays on it. After 4 years never once have their holiday entitlement matched mine at the end of the year.

My advice is to think of the thickest person you have ever met, take 50iq points off that and hey presto its HR, and deal with accordingly.

well as I see it...
there was a dumkopf that filled in the computer data in the first place, and made a mistake on mine in April
and theres a dumpkopf who can't and won't notice theres been a mistake made

Sometimes you honestly think that you'd be better at HR than the HR 'team'

Are they working on the assumption that you haven't accrued them yet???
My work tried a similar tactic on a mate until we argued the fact that if they were to use that argument then there would be days you could only take at the very end of your leave year. They were not impressed when we said that if they wanted to insist on this procedure then all the staff would have a week off at the end of the the year together. Funnily enough they didn't want everybody off at the same time to decided to listen to reason.

It has crossedmy mind, as this company and others have a system of you accrue 1.XYZ a month, but then what would happen if you buzzed off on your summer hols for 2 weeks of any particular month etc. Besides by the time the Ecosse, at least, is on, then I'd have accrued them back if my maths is correct.

Dizzy don`t you get an allocated amount of annual leave at the start of every April? Do you have an Annual Leave Record sheet to record the leave you take? this sounds totally unreasonable!!! Also if you`re off on sick leave when you were due to take annual leave and that has been conveyed to your employer then your annual leave that you had planned on taking should be cancelled as you`re actually off sick! Hope you get somewhere with this.... sounds like they`re trying to pull a fast one to me.

PS: Get well soon
