Default Games console donation?

Not to you lot

I've got an original Xbox that I simply don't use anymore. I enjoyed playing it with my mates at uni but I just don't seem to use it these days.

I've looked at how much they go for 2nd hand on Ebay / Bargain pages, etc and I'm looking at probably around £30-40 max (Xbox with 2 controllers, DVD remote + 7 games).

So, the question is, does anyone know where I can donate it to that it would get good use by 'deprived' kids? I don't mean a specific donation to a single family, I'm thinking more like a care home or something.

Bit random I know but I'd rather see it go to good use for someone who'd get enjoyment out of it rather than sell it to someone for not much money who'd try and sell it on at a profit!

Anyone who asks for it to be given to them gets a virtual smack!

What about a children's hospital or something? Local kids charity?

We did a similar thing years ago (in fact a looooong time ago now, God I'm getting old!), we took all my toys that I'd grown out of etc down to the local children's home and they seemed pretty happy to take them. Stuff included a load of Gen 1 Transformers and my Spectrum 128K computer with tape drive - shows how long ago it was!!

If you have a local Children's home / hospice I'd say that's you best bet.

Birmingham childrens hospital may like it? Its on Steelhouse Lane next to Aston uni...
Not sure how old the majority of patients are there...but they'll have some sort of play room or something!

I notice you are in Birmingham.
Where I work we transport quite a few members of the forces to Sellyoak hospital who have been returned to the country due to injuries sustained abroad. I know they are not children (well, not as such) but I wonder if it might be worth contacting them to see if it would come in handy.
Don't forget that the troops returning are often seriously injured and miles away from friends and family.

All good suggestions guys, thanks.

The children's hospital - d'oh! why didn't I think of that! I've been driving / riding past it for years, it's funny how you don't notice what's under your nose!

I'll see if they do want it but if not then I'll ring social services to see if they can use it. I want to ensure it actually reaches the beneficiary though rather than just give it to a 3rd party who may sell it (cynical I know )

Thanks again guys,
Matt

Whereabouts are you Matt? I'm looking for some people round brum to meet up with as none of my mates have bikes or are even slightly interested :P

Hi mate, I've got a flat just off Five Ways near the city, me and another mate who got a bike last year are planning on doing a few rideouts once the weather gets a bit better so I'll let you know if you fancy coming? I'm also planning on going to Basset's Pole or Stormy Petrel when I get my act together! I know that Kwak quite often goes there with a few others - we should all meet up one Tuesday and go.
