Default Rear projection TV repair???

My rear projection TV is on the blink. It looks like the red light is out of alignment at the bottom of the screen, so I get (especially) subtitles duplicated above themselves in a different colour. & obviously the picture is off at the bottom.

So, a worthwhile fix? or a 5 yr old TV for the scrap heap?
Cheers for your views / ideas to fix.

It's not that fat front to back is no more than the DVD player, Sky etc underneath it, of course it's huge because the screen is.

Realignment is a normal process for those type tv's, probably just needs realigning, you might be able to do it yourself. There'll be adjustment screws inside for each projector colour.

Cool. The Red is definitely off. Problem might be that it's not consistent. i.e. middle & top is fine but the bottom is wrong.

Any tips before I take the cover off?

Mine's gone exactly the same - it's not a Toshiba by any chance?

I took the front screen off to have a crack at re-setting the aim of the red gun but all I could adjust was the focus and not the convergence - I think that's all controlled my some electrical magic voodoo circuit board.

I called the shop where I bought it from (they also carry out repairs) and the technician basically said it would be un-economical to repair.

It's a 7 year old tv so I've had my money's woth out of it. I'd buy a new one if I wasn't so tight!

LG
The front screen sounds scary. Why's it always the red gun that goes off?
"un-economical to repair" WTF I paid £800 4 yrs ago, obviously they don't cost as much now but that means someone wants £500 to repair it?
