Went on a round trip to see my family at the weekend, Newcastle to Wakefield and back, a total of 220 miles.
I wanted to know what the fuel economy would be on a run for my N reg Mondeo 1.8 TD estate, so just before setting off I filled up, and reset the trip. Came home, filled up. Never went over 70mph, and at least half the journey was at 65mph. It's practically all motorway work door to door. It took 19 litres of diesel to fill back up, costing a whopping ?25.07!!!! ![]() Anyway, my findings are as follows, and correct me if I'm wrong: 220 miles divide by 19 litres = 11.57 (11.5) 11.5 x 4.5 (4.5 litres in a gallon) = 51.75mpg!! Now here's the thing. I'm pleased my old wreck gets 52mpg....but a total cost of ?25 to get from Newcastle to Wakey and back!! I'm shocked. So, the next time I go down (to Wakefield that is) I shall be taking the 55 reg Picasso 1.6 petrol. Same excerise exactly etc, to see if a modern petrol will be as efficient as an old diesel.....and to see if the price difference means I'm better off driving the petrol from now on. Oh, the misus now thinks I am obsessed with fuel economy, as well as motorbikes. Thats all, as you were. |

Awesome stuff
Over the past few days, I've done 140 miles onmy bike. In that time, I used 11.5 - 12 litres of fuel. I dunno what MPG that is, but its over 10 miles per litre, which itself is about 50 mpg Matt |

I doubt a 1.6 petrol will beat it, but maybe a 1.2 or 1.4 might.

I'm going from Canterbury to nottingham on thursday and hoping to do it on one tank, 191 miles. Hoping to get there before the reserve clicks on. From there, to york and again to manchester and back home, I'm hoping I can do it on 3 fuel tanks. Watch this space haha

You arent going to beat that in a Petrol....
Example I went from Yeovil to Fareham in a Diesel Vauxhall Zafira hire car. I had to fill it up before I dropped it off. Cost ?20.50 in Diesel, I'd done the same journey in a Renault Megan Scenic hire car ( 1.6 Petrol ) cost of Fuel to fill it again ?34.50 Road conditions both the same, both driven by me the same way, exactly the same route driven same sort of levels of traffic as well. I was surprised by the difference. Both cars were brimmed with fuel before I left.

It will be a few weeks before I try it, so will just have to wait and see. Although I was potentially going on a run to see a bike at the weekend.....but just been told it has sold tonight
