Is it worth running one of those registry cleaners and if yes - which one

Download HijackThis, run a scan and save a log-file, and copy/paste the content of the log here, and we'll see what you need to get rid of

Also CC cleaner is a good free software but if you sue the registry cleaner make sure you agree to the prompt that says "back up registry?" cos it only takes a second and can save you a lot of grief if you make a boo-bo.

Possibly. But personally think that you'll have more luck with downloading and installing something like Adaware

Sounds like you have an infestation of spyware to me.

i run msconfig and close down any startup programmes i dont need this lets my pc boot quickly, that and Adware.

It's only gone slow really since I joined BT Broardband and got a load of "essential" stuff on the set up disc. So either they have sent me a load of spywear or I just haven't worked our yet what to turn off

Whats Adaware do?
