Default Shell Rentinax LX2 lubricant for the chain

I have a SV 650s 2004 and want to know if this grease is suitable to lube up the chain on my bike as the man in the shop said it was suitable.

As you may be able to tell that i have no idea about the bike, YET!!

Many thanks

Hmmm, well, it's not really a chain grease as such according to here

Having said that it's not actually harmful, but I suspect you'll find it won't stay put for long and your rear wheel will get pretty messy.

The main issue will be that it won't get into between the pins and rollers, which is one of the main areas needing lubing.

Really you want either a proper chain lube, (Wurth, Castrol Chain Wax, PJ1 or similar stuff, usually aerosol) or fit a chain oiler of some description - search on "Scottoiler".

I've tried loads over the years a lot are too dry and tacky or too messy so you get lots fling, the best (value too) I've found is Rock Oil Chain WaxLube. http://www.rockoil.co.uk/

When you spray it on initially its like a foam so you can see where it's been applied then it fizzes into a chain lube oil, you can see it bubbling, penetrating and cleaning the dirt from the rollers, excellent. Comes in two sizes small at 3.40 and about 5.5 quid for the bigger 400ml size. You may be able to pick it up locally and save on the postage, but the 400ml is enough for 5000 miles of riding.
