Default Removing bolts

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good penetrating fluid. I am trying to remove the bolts on the dogbones on my K3 to get to the bolt on the shock. I have used copious amounts of WD40 but with no luck.

Maybe time for brute force and ignorance.

Cheers,
Paul

3-in-1 penetrating oil.

You can try Plus Gas... or something I managed to get off a forum member is freezing spray. Its cools the bolt down to help crack it off, can't remember the name but if you phone most car 'bits' wholesalers they should know what your on about. The other thing is a nice big breaker bar as I did mine last weekend and you need plenty of leaverage.

Those are tough nuts & bolts. Try some penetrating oil if you can, then get a 6 sided 1/2 inch drive socket and a breaker bar on it. As long as force is applied in the right way it'll be fine

(I'm not a strong man, but have some Halfords impact sockets and a Halfords Professional breaker bar for when I need to "persuade the nut round a bit")

Its Locktite 'freeze and release' spray. Thought Plus Gas was the same sorta stuff

Found some links.

Plusgas - pentrating oil.

Loctite Freeze and Release - freezing spray.

Make sure you give the bearings a good greasing when you do get the bolts out as they tend to get forgoten about.

WD40 should do it with no problems, you will probably find it is just the case of needing a longer breaker bar for leverage.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, and thanks Mr Grinch for the links. I think the 1st port of call is a good sized breaker bar for more leverage.

Ok, Now I know what the term "crack the nut means". After much effort pulling on a breaker bar I heard a crack followed swiftly by me falling flat on me @rse. The good news was the nut was finally loose.

Removed the nuts on the offside and took dogbone off, i can now see the bearings which need greasing.

Next problem is how to remove the two bolts. they turn round but wont pull out the other side, any ideas? Seems as though the suspension may be uncoiling and causing friction. Is it safe to knock em through?

The bike is now on an Abba stand.

Thanks,
Paul

Plusgas is good. If you're going to be undoing tight/marginal bolts with any regularity, get some proper stuff, WD40 is a pretty poor penetrating oil (since it wasn't designed as such)
