Default Soho gents do Mallory Park - 56k Beware

Heres some of the photos I took today at Mallory of the gents from soho.

Nice to meet new and old faces again.

I turned up, and immediately the red flag went up unfortunately it chris (Sorry for the photo, had to be done lol). To be fair though this was done in the first session and by lunch the bike was fixed and he was back out, out cornering bigger opposition.

More photos of teriakeymonkeyman, Mranderson and chris

Pictures look good, i think the Devil's Elbow is the best place for left knee on the deck photos! So if you go again, as the photographer nicely! Either way, looks good!

Anyone deliberately trying to get their knee down at the Devil's Elbow is a fool; it's a downhill off camber bend and that tyre wall to the right is not very far away at the sort of speed you're carrying through there. The left into Edwinas or through the Bus-stop are a far better choice if you want photos of left knee down.

Nice photos, Graeme. Was it a Hotrax day?

Nice pics G. I still want to have a play at Mallory, but something always goes wrong when I try to book it.

Strange place to dump it. Normally coming out of Edwinas where it all goes t*ts up.

Ditto. I have been to Mallory a few times and would never get my knee on the deck. Apart from having to shift mid-corner (one instance where a GP shift pattern is beneficial) the downhill off camber-ness means you are way more likely to lose the front.

I had a mate who sadly died whilst racing at Mallory and i have a picture of him going down the Devil's Elbow with his knee down, obviously he was racing so probably pushing harder, and it is a brilliant picture one of my favorites!

Never had the joy of racing at Mallory... yet. But I have done a few ACu days there. One of my favourite tracks! Just a shame that gerrards has got that stupid chicaine now. I very rarely get my knee down at the devils elbow, but when I do, it's usually my gear lever, footpeg and then my knee. As you say Mallory does benifit rac shift set up but I just can't get on with it.

Nice pics by the way, glad you all enjoyed yourselves!

I was taught by my mate Danny - who is a top level club racer and trackday instructor - to short shift a second gear after I exited the Bus-stop and then move my foot right back on the footrest, that way there's no need for the upshift halfway down the hill and your toe is well clear of touching down and possibly hitting the gearchange. Being a steep downhill section you'll have plenty of grunt to get and keep you moving and you'll have an advantage over those people trying to upshift whilst cranked right over.

That dropped my laptimes on the next session by 1 1/2 secs a lap as I was making some good overtakes at the bottom of the hill onto the start-finish straight.

Gerards is a proper knee down corner, as is just about every other corner there, even the sharp right in the middle of the Bus-stop, but never at Devil's Elbow.

The Gerards chicane isn't there permanently, only certain clubs use it at their discretion and it's never used on No Limits trackdays I've done there since it's been put in - it's also never used on Wednesday afternoon parctise sessions. Unfortunately Bemsee used it last year and there were huge numbers of crashes, to the extent that a large number of prominent riders told the organisers that they wouldn't do another Mallory meeting with them if the chicane was used again. My mate Danny crashed there twice that weekend and we took his ZX10R home with huge amounts of damage (If it had been an older road bike I'd have thrown it in a skip); by far the worst meeting he has ever had and he swore he'd never go on that circuit again if that chicane was in place.
