+ 1

you are better to go somewhere were you have seen the tattoists work on a portait or a recommendation.

Or book a flight to Miami and get the girl there to do the work as the portaits she does is worth the flight

I got a portrait of the wife done on my upper right arm about 10 yrs ago, I went to Feline studio,s in Sheffield http://www.fionalong.co.uk/ and got tattoo,d by the world famous Fiona Long, took me months to get in to see her cos she was constantly being invited out to the states and europe all the time, all I did was find a decent photo of the wife and sent it through to her, when I went to get it done she put the image on a phtotcopier to get the size right to fit my upper arm and then did an outline and from there did the portrait, I wouldnt go anywhere else tbh and funnily enough Ive been thinking of getting my kids portraits as well, check out some of the tattoo mags as well , they often showcase artisits who specialise in portraits, it really is worth spending a bit of time to find a decent one, good luck with it.

Yeah have a read of magazines like Skin Deep or Total Tattoo, they're really good for showcasing the work of good tattoo artists.

Skin Deep have a forum on t'interweb too.

As has already been mentioned you need to go to someone you know is capable of doing this type of work i have had a few done now (not portrates mind) and i would now only use one bloke in the future as his work is far superior to all the previous places i have been everything he does is freehand and unique there was'nt even a design for my work in progress he just makes it up as he goes. I would think for getting this work done you will have to pay by the hour aswell i pay about 50quid an hour or there abouts.

cheers mick
