Default Speed camera detectors?

Anybody used or got a speed camera detector? I've got TomTom for my car, which tells me the locations of the fixed cameras, which some of the other GPS devices do the same job. But some of the others detect the laser gun & cameras.
Just wondered if anyone has got one and can recommend anything (apart from not using lead boots & controlling my throttle hand)

The Road Safety Bill 2004 (which from my limited research this morning was brought into effect 8 november 2006 - though this could be wrong) makes all speed camera detection by passive radar/laser detection illegal. The penalties set out are more serious than simply speeding - think perverting the course of justice.

Is it worth it?

GPS is fine, but radar/laser is out.

I have an Inforad, which is a GPS map based system and thus legal, regular map updates are taken from the internet.
There's no display just a single LED, which shows green when the system's working, red if you're within a certain distance of a camera, and flashes red in said zone if you're above the limit.
Obviously it isn't able to detect mobile cameras, only fixed cameras that are on the loaded map, which very occasionally has omissions - all the same it works well, and it's not expensive.
I don't consider it freedom to ignore the possibility of cameras, one should still be aware, but it's definitely informed me a couple of times that imminent arrival at an 'accident black spot*' is upon me.

* The ONLY place you'll ever find a 'safety' camera as we all well know.

Hmmmm, not sure about this, my understanding was that your average detector was ok if it didnt omit any radar/laser signals. I think the illegal ones are the ones that attempt to jam the speed detectors signal.

I have just readd through that section of the Road Safety Bill, which actually makes amendments to the Road Traffic Act of 1988. Its difficult to understand on its own so I will make some more enquiries re. this tomorrow.

From my reading of this review of speed camera locators in auto express this is a speed camera locator, using gps, so it's legal. But in the text it says you can get a plug in laser sensor. So that was my question. Anybody got something similar to this?

It's a lot of folding stuff! But cheaper than losing your licence

I know the jammers are illeagal, this isn't a jammer

Its not illegal to have a detector but its illegal to act on the information it gives you. Daft isn't it.
