Default Something missin from my brakes!

After a ride a couple of weeks ago I noticed something loose on the rear brake of my bike, I touched it and a part of it fell off......

Can anyone tell me what its for, what it does....and whether I should be worried enough to replace it.

I have ridden about 500 miles since it happened including a trackday with no adverse effect but it is niggling in the back of my mind.

Its the white fibirous material between the pad and metal plate the piston pushes on. In the picture below you can see it behind the left pad, but not behind the right pad.....it is actually there but the part of it that the gold coloured bolt passes threw is missing.

It appears that some of the ceramic backing to the brake pad has come adrift. Unless it's falling off in chunks and likely to wedge itself between the pad material and disc, I wouldn't worry about it. You'll probably find replacement pads aren't ceramic backed anyway.

Cool, I have no idea why the bit that broke off did, but its not falling off in chunks, just that single bit, I dont think theres enough movement in it for another bit to break off and wegde itself between the disk and pad, will have to check.

Cheers though, as long as its unlikely to cause something stupid like excesive heat, uneven wear or warping I'm not bothered

No idea what the problem is but 10/10 for the "Snotting" of the back tyre all the way to the edge
