Default Arai tour X

Has anyone got one of these,

I really like the way they look a I reckon that the peak thing would be great for this time of year when there is a lot of low sun but you don't really want a dark visor either.

The only thing is does the peak cause more drag than a normal helmet at 80-100 mph

Are they any good as well?

Cheers

well well well, finally I've found another person who's actually heard of my helmet. Had mine since the bike show in november last year. I bought it with a tinted visor (and the clear one as standard). It looks cool with the peak on, but at speeds above 50mph ish, a lifesave tends to nearly rip your head off. However, all is not lost, you can remove the peak and fit 2 neat little blanking plates over the sides where it normally covers your visor screws.

I'll try find a pic of mine for you, looks cool as feck

Ewan and Charlie used these on a Long Way Round and a Long Way Down, they must have been happy with them to use them on both trips.

lots of folks use them on the supermotos, as a half way point between full face or MX lid and goggles

you won't want the peak on if you're going to be doing much above 60mph for more than a few seconds as it'll pull on your neck, but without it i'm sure it's pretty much the same as any other Arai

They were riding beemers with huge screens though, I have a z750 and your head is straight in the windblast, the whole peak thing was sort what I was after because I hate the low lying sun.

Its a nice helmet though and I would like one that is a little diffent from the normal.

Think the best thing is to go and try one and see what I think.

Cheers for the replies and the pics paul - how easy is it to remove and refit the peak, for instance if you were going for a long ride could you have it on in the morning a quickley take it off when the sun is a bit higher. Also can you anti mist visor inserts for them?

Basically, there's 2 screws on each side which hold the visor and peak in place. If you undo the 4 screws (in total), the peak and the visor drop off. You can then put the visor back and use the little blanking plates which come in the box (like i have). The screws are a basic flat head screw driver - I carry a mini multi tool and my clear visor for long rides, so if it starts to drop dark, it's a 1 minute job to unscrew/swapover/rescrew.

As for the anti mist, I bought one of those foggy breathguards. Took a few attempts to get it to sit straight and comfortably, but it stops your breath going up onto your visor. Best 10 quid I ever spent Oh and just so you know, it velcro's into the cheek guards at the sides & and soft material at the front/bottom of the chin bar. Made out of the same stuff as wetsuits I think? 100% recommended if you have trouble with breath/misting up

I got rid of mine the day I got my SV , it was fine on my Varadero / The day I got the SV I removed the peak and had it the same style as Paul . That night in the rain it misted up so badly that it very nearly killed me on a bend . It`s the worst helmet I have ever owned for riding on a bigger bike . Thrapping around on my KTM or the Varadero it was a brilliant helmet , on the SV ........... NO . Ended up getting an Arai Corsair instead and one of those little sun strip things on the visor for the low Sun in the mornings and evenings .

oh and just to give you an idea of cost, I bought mine at the show last year - boxed up at 275 quid, managed to get the lid down to 200 and the visor should have been 50 but I got it for 25.

Not bad if you haggle a bit:
"come on mate, this is supposed to be a show, I could walk into any local shop and pay that full price, I thought "the show" is where you're meant to get a good bargain? I'm sure I've seen the same lid over there for 200 quid, but their stall also has the other helmet I'm thinking of buying for £225, so I might just just buy that one instead."

and so on.
