Hi guys,
Got a problem with my bike (2000 SV650S) in that it won't start. I eventually managed to get the plugs out, which looked like they needed replacing. Went to Halfo*ds and got two new plugs. When I got back I checked if either set of plugs would spark, but there's nothing (front or rear) ![]() ![]() So what does the mighty .org think could be the problem. Cheers, Josh PS: I am rubbish mechanically (gotta' start somewhere hey?) so could any advice be given in as simple terms as possible please ![]() |

My first port of call would be to check the leads, but I dont think both could go, so maybe a fuse has blown?
How are you checking them, are you making sure you have them against the frame / metal bit to earth them when you check for the spark? |

Fuses are fine (Would've been nice if that was the problem ![]() Yeah that's how I was checking them.. Tried against the frame, the engine, and the metal plate that you have to take off to remove the tank. ![]() |

Check all wires/plugs on/to the coils are all as should be.

Have you got a multimeter?
Check the coils are receiving 12v ... on the orange/white wires. i.e. with ignition on and +ve probe on the orange white, black probe earthed to the frame. You should see 12v (or whatever the actual battery voltage is so say 13v). My guess is you are not getting 12v to the coils! ![]() |

If they're not getting 12v, what would I need to do to fix it? |

Obviously if the bulb glows at normal brightness, you have 12v ... if it fails to glow or glows really dim ... you have a problem ![]() If you don't have 12v, then you need to follow the wires back and find where you start getting 12v ... this is where a multimeter really helps ... But what I'd do (to check the ECU/CDI is ok) is get a bit of wire and directly connect between the battery +ve and the orange/white wire on the coil and see if the bike starts/runs .... if it does, then the its simply a problem with the orange/white wire circuit (this includes all cut off and safety switches) ... if it doesn't then look at the CDI next. |

No spark, but it turns over means the orange/white ignition hot must have fire as this supplies starter relay trigger current too!
I would get multimeter, take plug off ignitor unit and resistance check stuff. You can also check voltage is getting to ignitor unit.
